Chocolate Reaper-(Capsicum chinense)-This is the Chocolate variant of the Carolina Reaper. It is close to the same heat level depending on growing conditions. The Chocolate Reapers have less tails on the pods. Over the years we have seen about 40% tails on Carolina Reapers. The percentage on these Chocolate Reapers is about 25% with tails. Still the peppers have that Reaper shape and skin texture. Also we got more pods per plant than the Red variety in 2016 growing. The flavor is fruity like the red original but not as sweet. The Chocolate Reaper chile plants grow close to 4 feet tall.

The Kraken Scorpion (Capsicum Chinense) is a large brown superhot variety created by Mike Hess of Peoria, Illinois in 2013. It is a cross between the Bhut Jolokia India Carbon and the Trinidad Chocolate Scorpion. The peppers are elongated but also fatter than any Ghost or Naga pepper. They sometimes grow a little signature tail at the pointed end of the pepper. The Kraken Scorpion peppers themselves have a very rough pimply outer skin. The heat is extreme. The peppers can get big enough to almost fill the palm of an average hand! They ripen from green to brown and sometimes dark brown. The flavor is floral and earthy. Some would say smoky. A great addition to making a hot sauce or a very hot seasoning powder.

We've just sourced these interesting new seeds from Jim Dufffy of Refining Fire Chiles. The original Naglah Red is a cross between the Bhut Jolokia and the 7 Pot Douglah created by the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University. Now in his 2015 growout Jim had two Naglah plants that gave totally different shaped peppers. These peppers were kind of mushroom shaped instead of elongated and very bumpy - a bit like a mini MA Wartryx - and he named them the Naglah Beast. This is not a stable new variety, but a variant of the Naglah, which we hope will stay consistent as it is a cool looking pepper!
